Review both the browser permissions and the product’s data-handling policy before installing a resume downloader. Permissions describe what an extension can access. The policy should explain what it does with that access, which data leaves the browser and which services receive it.
This guide explains Waslio’s Resume Downloader for LinkedIn Hiring. We make the extension, so this is a product explanation and evaluation checklist, not an independent security assessment. Use your organization’s software approval process where one applies.
Ask two different questions
First ask, “What can this extension access?” Then ask, “What does its documented workflow send or store?” A permission prompt alone cannot answer both. For example, permission to read a hiring page may be necessary to identify its resume links, but it does not by itself establish whether candidate data is uploaded elsewhere.
Google’s explanation of extension permission warnings distinguishes access to specified websites from access across websites. Review the actual prompt for the version you install rather than assuming every downloader asks for the same permissions.
What Waslio’s policy says the permissions do
The extension privacy policy is the source for the following descriptions. Compare it with the current store listing and Chrome prompt when you evaluate the product.
- Downloads: save the resume files and CSV index to your computer.
- Storage: retain settings and export progress so an interrupted batch can be continued.
- Alarms: schedule the configuration refresh.
- LinkedIn Hiring page access: read the applicant table on hiring pages you open.
- ExtensionPay access: verify licensing.
- Waslio website access: retrieve configuration and handle the documented trial or plan events.
That list explains the published policy; it is not a claim that a browser permission provides a technical guarantee about every data flow. If a future prompt or policy changes materially, review the change before approving it for your team.
Separate candidate files from account data
According to Waslio’s policy, applicant names and resume files are processed locally for the export and are not sent to Waslio. The export saves documents and an index on your computer. The extension uses your existing signed-in LinkedIn browser session and does not ask you to share your LinkedIn password.
This does not mean the extension makes no network requests. The policy describes a configuration request to Waslio, license verification through ExtensionPay and trial or plan events. If you provide an email for a trial or Pro, licensing and email services receive the documented email, status and usage information. Product emails use Brevo; payment handling uses ExtensionPay and Stripe. Read the policy’s linked service notices if your review requires them.
Keep these categories separate in an approval note. “Candidate files stay local” and “the product uses licensing services” can both be true. Neither statement should be simplified into an unsupported promise that all activity is offline.
Inspect the installed extension in Chrome
Google’s extension management instructions explain how to open Extensions, choose Manage extensions and inspect an extension’s Details. Chrome provides site-access controls for supported permissions. Those choices operate within the extension’s declared host permissions; they do not grant access to arbitrary new hosts.
On a managed work browser, installation may be restricted by your organization. Ask its administrator to review the store listing and policy through the normal process. Do not disable workplace controls to make an export run.
If the extension is approved but its button is missing, check the supported page and installation state using the download troubleshooting guide. Broadening permissions without understanding the missing access is not a diagnosis.
A practical approval and removal checklist
- Record the extension name, publisher, store link and version reviewed.
- Confirm that the intended workflow is a job’s Hiring or Hiring Pro applicant list.
- Compare the permission prompt with the documented purpose of each permission.
- Record where candidate files, progress information and licensing data are handled.
- Choose an approved destination for downloaded files and a person responsible for the batch.
- Record who will review later permission or policy changes.
Removing the extension and deleting downloaded files are separate tasks. Waslio’s policy says local export progress is removed on uninstall. That does not delete PDFs or CSV files already saved in Downloads or copied to team storage. Follow your organization’s process for those copies; this guide does not prescribe a legal retention period.
